Welcome to Picture Your Horse, a site that celebrates the majesty and personality of horses. Picture Your Horse, which launched on July 1st, 2017, is the online location of Alison Goodrich, 19, an avid equine artist in Upstate New York. For the last ten years, I’ve been working to capture the beauty and mystique of horses through many hours of practice.

Since my earliest attempts with crayons and paper, horses have been the most popular subjects of my pictures. In fact, recently I found an art curriculum from first grade where I had written my artistic goal: “Draw horses.” Thanks to the local 4-H program, and several generous horse owners who invited me to get to know their horses and develop my equestrian skills, I have had many opportunities to watch horses in action and get to know some of their different moods and temperaments.

An early effort at equine portraiture!

With constant practice and warm encouragement from my parents, I began experimenting with different artistic mediums in an effort to create lifelike portraits. Eventually I settled on soft pastels as the best and most expressive medium for depicting my subjects.

If you have a favorite horse whose personality you’d like to capture in a lasting portrait, I would love to work with you. Feel free to browse the samples of my work and information about what I would need from you in order to create a picture of your forever friend.
